Dictionary skills, verb tables and conjugation

(6)
Lesson aimed at developing dictionary skills prior to writing Controlled Assessment. \n\nThe aim is for pupils to know what type of words they are looking up, and to be able to use verb tables correctly to avoid handing in work peppered with infinitives.\n\nAll examples are the Oxford School French Dictionary as this is what our pupils use in exams. \n\nThe conjugation game on the last slide was sent to me by a colleague who found it on TES - you may need to search for it to get a clearer copy than my screeshot.

Disclaimer: The conjugation board game is NOT mine, it was sent to me by a colleague who found it online. But as it links into the lessons I felt it made sense to include it here. Let me know if it's yours so I can credit you! \n\nA series of lessons aimed at high ability KS4 (Y9 or 10) to equip them with skills to include a range of tenses (including ones they haven&'t been taught yet) in their work. \n\nFocuses on recognising when to use 6 main tenses and on using the verb table in the middle of the dictionary to conjugate so pupils can be more independent in future.

Colous poem project for Y7 Spanish - will probably take 3-5 lessons depending on your group. \n\nAfter learning basics of colours, word order and adjective agreements, pupils read a poem and identify nouns and adjectives.\n\nThey develop dictionary skills to research new vocabulary so they can be creative, producing similes using nouns (eg: blue like the sea) then add in adjectives to enhance their similes (eg: blue like the shimmering sea). \n\nAfter the 2-3 lessons provided on powerpoint they can complete their poems and write up in neat for display.
